The game tells a multi-generational, 50-year-long saga about a man who has nowhere to belong from the very beginning of his life. The story begins in San Francisco in 1915, when a young Makoto Daito – the son of an American father and a Japanese mother – desperately escapes persecution and sneaks aboard a mysterious ship. Rejected by the world around him, he sets off on a journey that will forever change his fate.

The Story of Makoto Daito

Makoto grows up in a world of constant discrimination and loneliness. After losing his parents, he decides to leave the United States and travel to Japan – his mother’s homeland. With nothing but the clothes on his back, his decision marks the beginning of a long and unpredictable journey through a rapidly changing 20th-century world.

5 Eras, 5 Cities

The game presents an alternate vision of Japan, shown across five distinct historical periods and cities:

• 1915 – Kokura (Fukuoka): an industrial city filled with smoke, foundries, and hard labor
• 1929 – Kure (Hiroshima): a port dominated by a naval arsenal and yakuza influence
• 1943 – Minami (Osaka): an entertainment district under the shadow of wartime tension
• 1951 – Atami (Shizuoka): a lively post-war seaside resort town
• 1965 – Shinjuku (Tokyo): a chaotic and vibrant capital of entertainment

Each city offers a unique atmosphere, narrative, and challenges, reflecting Japan’s changing realities.

Brutal and Intuitive Combat

The gameplay focuses on an extremely dynamic and direct combat system. The player does not simply control the character — they become Makoto Daito, guiding his body through instinctive encounters. The system allows for precise strikes, counters, blocking, and the use of a wide arsenal of weapons, including knives, hammers, and katanas.

Combat is based on observation, reflexes, and instinct — each duel is a brutal test of survival where there is no room for restrictions.

Life as an Impresario

Beyond combat, Makoto discovers his musical talent and begins a path as an impresario. He creates performances, recruits artists, and composes music using sounds from the world — from street noise to natural and urban ambience.

The player builds shows from the ground up: selecting the cast, creating arrangements, and organizing performances that take Japan by storm. This is a unique blend of dramatic storytelling and creative gameplay.
